Hunting Dates and Seasons Wildlife Management Areas 2007-08 N.H. waterfowl hunting seasons set
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department has set final season dates
and bag limits for the 2007-08 waterfowl hunting season. The state's
waterfowl hunting season remains very similar to last year's, with a
60-day duck season and a six-bird daily limit. As a result of input at
the public meeting on August 28, the Department's season proposals were
modified slightly.
Most species restrictions are similar to last
year, except that the daily bag limits for scaup and canvasbacks both
increase from one per day to two per day.
Fish and Game will
continue split seasons for waterfowl, including ducks and Canada geese,
in both the inland and coastal zones to allow early and late hunting
opportunities:
* The Inland Zone season (ducks, mergansers, coots,
Canada geese) opens on October 3 and runs through November 4, then
reopens from November 21 through December 17.
* The Coastal Zone
season will open on October 4 and run through October 8, then reopen
November 21, 2007, through January 14, 2008.
Hunters of all
migratory game birds must have a 2007 New Hampshire hunting license and
are required by federal law to register for the National Migratory Bird
Harvest Information Program (HIP). Separate HIP permits are needed in
each state. Licensed hunters should call 1-800-207-6183, or go to
www.nhfishandgame.com, to receive a permit number (there is no
charge). This number should be written on the hunting license. Harvest
information from HIP helps Fish and Game and the U.S. Fish &
Wildlife Service make more reliable estimates of the number of all
migratory birds harvested throughout the country, allowing biologists
to make decisions about hunting seasons, bag limits and population
management. Each year, a random selection of hunters is asked to
complete a voluntary harvest survey.
Waterfowl hunters must also obtain a federal and a state duck stamp.
Hunters
are asked to report all banded birds using the toll-free phone number,
1-800-327-BAND. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will send a
certificate with information about the bird.

Early migratory game bird seasons set
The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department has announced 2007 hunting
season dates and bag limits for early season migratory game birds, with
few changes from last year.
Of note for this fall, the opening
date for New Hampshire's woodcock season has been changed to October 6,
which is five days later than in the past. This will allow hunting
opportunities in early November, when migrant woodcock are still in the
state.
The 2007-08 seasons are as follows:
*Resident Canada
geese: The bag limit is five birds per day during the September season,
which extends from the day after Labor Day (September 4) through
September 25. As was true last year, New Hampshire's resident Canada
goose population continues to grow and has a statewide distribution.
*Crows: The
fall crow-hunting season runs from August 15 to November 30. Next
spring's two-week crow season will be March 16-31, 2008.
*Sea
ducks: The sea duck season will run from October 1, 2007 - January 15,
2008; the bag limit is a total of 7 birds per day, with no more than 4
scoters, 4 eiders or 4 long-tailed ducks (formerly "oldsquaw").
*Woodcock: October 6 - November 4; bag limit is 3 birds per day.
*Common snipe: Sept. 15 - November 4; bag limit is 8 birds per day.
*Youth
waterfowl weekend: Last weekend in September (Saturday and Sunday,
September 29-30, 2007). All regular season waterfowl regulations,
including bag limits, shooting hours, use of non-toxic shot, etc.,
apply during the youth weekend.
Hunters of all migratory game birds
